Similar to dream analysis, art therapy, poetry therapy and writing therapy, Imagineering is ideal for use when a physical condition has no pain or is not obviously visible.
Known for being a gentle approach, it allows an indirect and metaphorical access to the emotion locked in the symptom, providing an opportunity for the calming and clearing effects of EFT to get to work.
Imagineering is a powerful technique which combines the Active Imagination theories of Jung with the EFT tapping technique of Gary Craig to enable access to the roots of physical disease and discomfort through the unconscious mind by way of its images, emotions and felt senses.
Active Imagination developed by Carl Jung between 1913 and 1916 is a meditation technique wherein the contents of one’s unconscious are translated into images, narrative or personified as separate entities. It can serve as a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious and includes working with dreams and the creative self via imagination or fantasy.
Thought Field Therapy was created by US clinical psychologist Roger Callahan in the 1980s. It is a gentle, rapid and non-invasive therapy founded on the principles of Applied Kinesiology and Acupuncture. Described by Callahan as ‘a code to Nature’s healing system’, it employs a set of algorithms which, when applied to problems addresses their underlying causes, balancing the body in order to relieve psychological and emotional conflict.
Emotional Freedom Technique draws on various theories of alternative medicine – including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming, energy medicine, and TFT – and is based on the belief that health problems (including emotional issues) arise when the flow of energy round the body is blocked or disrupted in some way. Devised by Gary Craig, a prodige of Callahan, it works by focusing on such blockages and disruptions in order to restore normal energy flow.
Matrix Reimprinting is a timeline-based energy therapy which combines the use of body/mind with the New Sciences and the Chinese Medicine Meridian system. Created in 2006 by EFT Master Karl Dawson, it is effective for the treatment of both emotional and physical issues.
Imagineering: Blending Active Imagination with EFT and Matrix Reimprinting, Imagineering provides an application for use when a physical condition has no pain and is not visible and presents a fresh approach to treating physical pain, trauma and unresolved emotional conflict. Developed by EFT Master Gwyneth Moss, it is one of several recent additions to the Energy Therapy family.
Through modern science and psychology, we know that many of our physical symptoms have emotional roots. We also know that when a person isn’t able to handle those emotions they suppress them, which may be precisely how a physical symptom comes into being in the first place.
Imagineering allows an indirect and metaphorical access to the emotion locked in the symptom so that core issues can then come safely into awareness at a pace with which the person is ready to receive them and therefore make the necessary connections.
It can help with a whole range of physical and psychological issues, including:
- Longterm and Chronic Illness
- Eating Disorders
- Grief and Bereavement
- Anger and Frustration
- Social or Public Speaking Fears
- Intimacy Problems
- Travel Anxiety
“My imagination makes me human and makes me a fool; it gives me all the world and exiles me from it.” ~ Ursula Le Guin, Winged
We hold within us the ability to give birth to and host each of our demons. We also possess the depth of knowledge and the wealth of skills required in order to locate and vanquish every last one. It is just a matter of knowing where to look and what to do once you get there.
Which is where Imagineering comes in…
An imagined journey into the body, Imagineering involves shining a make believe light into the area of conflict in order to explore it thoroughly.
Asking the mind to present a metaphor to represent the underlying emotional or physical issue, it opens up a space from which to use EFT or Matrix Reimprinting on the various aspects that come up. Tapping then continues until there is a change to the metaphor which, in turn, translates into a change in the physical reality.
Imagineering is about listening to messages from the body and interpreting them and, as such, there is no one set process or technique. It’s foundations are malleable and there are many different approaches that can be applied, an example of which is the ‘Cross Comparison’. This entails comparing the area of the body that is in pain to an area that is healthy and then using EFT to create a transformation, choosing to replace the ‘unhealthy’ area with the ‘healthy’ one.
Imagineering utilises the chain of connections between the conscious and the unconscious to gain access to the roots of dis-ease in a non-threatening and indirect manner.
Offering a way of working with both acute and chronic physical symptoms, Imagineering is:
- Respectful of a person’s privacy
It can take us to the core issue that underlies the physical manifestation of dis-ease, allowing the specific core issue to come to consciousness once the person is ready to receive it and make the connections.
N.B: For your own safety, it is suggested that you consult an experienced practitioner before attempting to confront any serious issues on your own.
